If you were Disney and you wanted to maximize your profits from toy sales, why would you put a female as the lead of the three most recent Star Wars movies, a movie franchise (about war) that boys are naturally more drawn to?
And why would you give the female lead a black male sidekick, when you know that white males will make up the majority of toy buyers?
They knew they'd lose money, and yet they went with the female lead anyway, not once, but three times.
