As a kid I entertained the idea of having female characters, but I was ashamed to ask for them and there were not many female characters to start with, so it wasn't easy to say "I want the girl" among all the male characters (think 80's, 90's MOTU, GIJoe and the like). I got the occasional cheap, non-articulated female toy and also female figures from playsets, but it wasn't until video game based figures were a thing that I would start getting Resident Evil's Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield, Turok's Adon, Resaurus' Street Fighter Females...
