>>9126755Not all parts are created equal. Sets from the 1990s-2000s tended to have dogshit value in terms of parts, but also had more minifigs, baseplates, bigger parts (eg. BURPS), unique parts that were made just for that set, etc. I'd way rather have a 300 piece set with big, interesting parts and lots of minifigs than a 3000 part set for the same price if the part count is padded out with a bunch of 1x1 tiles.
Pic related is a good example. It had an atrocious PPP of 17.5 cents, but you get a rather large rope bridge piece, a large boat piece which was never released in any other set, a raised baseplate with a unique print, 8 minifigs, and a bunch of pretty unique printed bricks. Come to think if it, it's no wonder they were on the verge of bankruptcy the year this set came out.
