I remember when Barbie first started really declining around 2007, when they tried to remake Barbie into a Hannah Montana doll knockoff. Right at the end of Miley's Disney career when she was almost 18. Mattel apparently though HM was going to be an eternal brand instead of a fad.
And then again in 2009 when they thought they could pump out low quality collector dolls and make Barbie collecting a trendy cool thing. The collector doll quality never recovered. And they turned everything playline neon pink and tried to make "Barbie" an aspirational lifestyle brand. The whole line will go broke and they will think it was because they couldn't attract enough Starbucks customers.
