When you consider it's based around the concept of another alt timeline Trunks becoming a time patroller and helping the kai of time keep the time streams safe (Similar to the Marvel Time Variance Authority). Timelines are completely different from the Universes and realms introduced Super/DAIMA, so is able to operate in parallel to the canon without causing plot holes.
The key is to read/watch it from the start and follow the story through because it is fast paced and easy to miss events or get lost, but there is a linear storyline there. Just wish some of the characters were fleshed out a bit more.
