Kingdom tried too much being an IP and to appeal to kids.
So they went the way of action figures. I liked the idea and basic story idea. But the sets were near comical cartoony.

Big figures never really worked that well. At least for a series that is mainly minifigure scale.
See Kingdom Knights, see the StarWars Bionicle figures.
So they decided for Ninjago to make mechs.
You even see similar thing for Bionicle. They tried to make minifigure scale Bionicles, but they bombed and they kept making the normal ones.
