I did, too, until I had it in hand. The thing I hated more about the Hasbro version, though, was the terrible fucking white plastic. It was so milky and semi-translucent, it just completely ate up all the sculpted detail on his torso and legs. I tried doing some panel lining with a gundam pen to bring out the detail, and the plastic was so shitty and porous that it actually absorbed the ink from the pen and diffused it beyond the panel lines and completely ruined it, so I just chucked him in the bin and kept his guns to give to the Takara version.

I've been popping mine off for literal years now, every time I transform him. They're fine. The part of the wing that causes friction to hold them in place isn't the nubs, anyway, it's the inner edge of the wing rubbing against the shoulder, which could arguably wear down over time just from moving the wings at all.

It looks SO much better. Like, enough that if I break the damn thing, I don't mind paying another 40-something bucks to just buy a replacement even if I do break it. The painting and sculpting on the topside of his wings is so nice and such a recognizable design element, it seems a shame for them to only be visible in alt mode.

As far as something like an X-wing, your best bet is obviously Triggerhappy. Personally, my favorite starfighter guy is Topspin. I like how his engines make up so much of his mass, really makes him feel like an ass-tearing planet-hopper.
