Because nobody likes or remembers Voltron. People remember that it exists, they remember I'LL FORM THE BODY, and they vaguely remember the Robot Chicken sketch. Nobody that grew up with it remembers shit and the only reason Voltron merch sells at all is because every time a new version comes out, there's some small amount of people who remember it and want one.
There's a reason it's always sold as Voltron and never as Golion. Japan doesn't care, it's only nostalgia addled idiots with more money than sense that'll drop $250+ every time that a new version that's vaguely slightly better than the previous one.
