That's a pretty sweet VHD figure... I think I remember seeing this on eBay for like $50+, which reminds me I should probably get it before it gets even more expensive. That was the first anime I ever saw, back in the mid 90s.
I started playing with toys as a small child in the 80s. Lego, Masters of the Universe, Battle Beasts, MUSCLE, and countless other smaller but equally compelling franchises. The 80s was honestly a golden era for toys, IMO. In the 90s I mostly just stuck to Lego and had a few others like Mighty Max, GI Joe, and Micro Machines. My younger brother was born in the mid 90s and I'd play with his Fisher Price castle and knights with him, those were a lot of fun. Aside from the notorious gray castle he also had one with a lion face on it and a cool forestmen set from that line.
In the late 90s I was a teen and still sticking to Lego, but the sets were getting weaker with the introduction of franchised sets like Star Wars and Harry Potter. There was a marked drop in the design and theming behind their castle and space lines at this time so I lost interest and shifted entirely into my other life-long hobby, video games, as well as anime (vintage 80s and early 90s stuff, I hated what anime became after the late 90s)
It wasn't until my early 30s, some 12~ years later that I decided to get back into Lego. I collected a few Atlantis sets, Alien Conquest, Kingdoms, and the Pet Shop modular, because that's what was out at the time I got back into it and they were somewhat reminiscent of where I had left off with Lego. Then I noticed how quality the Star Wars sets looked. I was never a huge fan of Star Wars but I knew about the original trilogy having grown up in the 80s and I started collecting sets from episodes 4/5/6.
Will continue this little blog in my next post.
