When things do clear up, there’s going to be some real comedy, as well as cheap prices to enjoy. You know how the pegs are empty? That means people are buying literally everything, including the shit no one actually wants. Soon we will see lots of bagholders who won’t be able to give away most of the shit they bought to scalp. Personally I have noticed the price of desirable mainlines falling fast, so I think the process is already starting.
It hasn’t been to this scale, but this kind of thing has happened in the past when there was an uptick in hot wheels craze. The last time I remember seeing lots of bagholders was pic released, the Classics line from 06 or so. Not a bad line by any means, the cars got metal body and base, as well as a wide range of spectraflame colors for each car. But despite their alleged limited edition branding, Mattel put out A LOT of them, and stores always had full pegs to choose from. They were about $4 a pop, so quite a step up from standard cars, so many only bought castings they really liked. Even still, lots of people bought them in bulk to scalp, only to realize there was zero demand for them because stores were just so well stocked with them.
It’s been 15 years or so now, so some of the more desirable ones have gone up in price, but you can still find quite a few from this set under the $4 starting price
