Kids have been wanting expensive as fuck consoles and games forever.
These N64 games near the end of its life cycle cost $70 and that's over $100 bucks in real world dollars back then.
So if anything, video games are cheap as fuck now.
Probably the cheapest era to buy video games was in the 2000 era, but the toy industry was bigger back then too and was seeing growth year after year after year until around 2008-2009 (like with most entertainment markets).
