>>5509517Well you don't necessarily need to watch anything to enjoy a cool mecha design. For example Macross has mecha called valkyries, which are basically fighter jets that transform into robots, and everyone can appreciate that!
If you're looking to get into some mecha anime though, I'd ask for guidance over at /m/ or /a/ as those boards are more suited for that, but a couple recommendations I'd have to get you started are Macross: Do You Remember Love, Macross Plus the Movie (particularly partial to this one myself!), and Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. Those are all stories from much larger universes, but you can enjoy each of them on their own without having full knowledge of each universes' backstory.
