Well, I picked her up today at a very fair price, and I have to say that as I held her I felt like I was holding an actual 100% genuine Barbie doll. So many times in recent years while buying modern day Barbie dolls I have to keep reminding myself that it's Barbie because I feel like I'm holding a cheap imitation. This new Totally hair Barbie is not just some random blonde doll with a generic face, and reduced family friendly bust size. It was also nice to be able to move her waist. This is not only the Barbie I grew up with, but she also has the face of the Barbie shown in Toy Story 2.
Compared to the vintage one I bought last year there are a few noticeable differences if you look at them side by side. The new dolls skin tone is a shade darker than the vintage dolls skin. It's not very noticeable in photos, but it is in person if you are looking at them side by side.
Her earrings are also different. While they may look the same in photos they aren't. The new ones have a round circle almost hidden behind the pink triangle shape. The makeup is also different. The colors are a little more bold, stronger, and more pronounced which gives her face a less softer look. Her eye shadow makeup is very different if you look at it in close up. There's more of some colors while there should be less of others, that kinda thing. The original vintage doll has a softer more baby doll face overall.
While the hair is long It's not as full or as fluffy as I thought it would be. It's very thin. I fell like if you brushed it to many times she would start getting bold spots. So other than not being a 100% faithful reproduction of the original I love her!
