At least when i brought up what happened 4 years ago, it's because the same shit is happening today and someone actually asked why people would defend inaccurate looking sculpts.
The only bad paint jobs someone mentioned is why the figures are so muddy and there's no defense for any specific line, just that the paint job on the figures reflects what soldiers do.
