>>10655674There is a split in ticket sales that exhibitors take. It's either 60/40 or 50/50 Distributors/Exhibitors. Only big boys like Disney demand a 70/30 split. Paramount has been releasing duds left and right, they don't get the big boy negotiating pants so they're probably in the 50/50 ball park.
That revenue split changes after 2 weeks by the way. After those 2 weeks, the split starts leaning more towards the exhibitors as an incentive to keep their films on screens longer. By week 3, it could be 40/60. And that's just the domestic market. The foreign market has their own splits as well, and some places like China fudge the numbers.
Point is, Paramount didn't rake in the entirety of the $173m gross. Cut that number by a little over a half. The movie barely made back its production budget. That's not a good sign if you wanted to reboot a legacy franchise. It's just above Blue Beetle.
