With 8 wides you get much more detail in shaping, but I have found that the 4 to 5 wides give me personally even more joy. You still can get very creative with techniques, while having more cars thus more variety for the same money, more space for cars, and it's easier to build a little diorama. And that it's a smaller scale of course doesn't prevent you from applying other themes to it. Once I used to take city sets and scale them down, though I don't have many of those left.
