>>10891047My guess is the ease to set one up and ease of control over them. Whoever sets it up is the one in charge of the rules, so what they say goes. And then people come into their space with the rules. And with how popular Discord has become, its easy for people to just join another Discord group without much effort. I think its all about convenience at the cost of things like speed and organization like you said. I am very much not a fan of Discord and how it works. Same for reddit. Old forums are still bad too, but I think that would get resolved if you hid post count, ranking, achievements, etc. so it doesn't encourage a power dynamic. 'Look at me, I'm Uzumaki69XxX and I over 100k posts on here because I don't have a life! Whatever I say is more important I better not catch you necro posting noobie!' and people believe them, then you get ganged up for disagreeing and people cause drama. You can't really win with any method.
Anonymous posting seems to be the best as long as moderators are fast to take out easy trolls and inflammatory/off-topic posts.
