>>10918605>are they just super-quick-drying acrylics No they're high pigment semi-opaque high flow paints that (when applied over a white or zenithal base coat) act as wash, basecoat and highlight in one go (and with zenithal you also get shadows). It's a good way to do very small scale figures (I've used home made contrast paints for 1:72 figures as a "quick start" layer) or make larger miniatures look like a child painted them. It takes no effort and is quick and it does give passable results when you just want to have painted minis on the table. For myself that likes to take some pride in my work I think it looks pretty ugly, mostly because people use it as a crutch instead of a tool.
Pic related, some shit-tier 1:72 models that I did not feel like wasting time on giving the superstar treatment, so they're pretty much done with the homebrew contrast paints and minimal detailing (maybe some highlights as well, can't remember).
