They were named the Apex, as each of them was a human being infused with the spirit of one of the five apex predators in the region: the lion, the wolf, the eagle, the crocodile and the gorilla. Thus, they looked like a mix of a human being and their spirit animal. They were five because five is an odd number, so that no vote would be split in matters regarding the forest, as they voted over what they would do to keep the forest safe. Each of the five druids had the ability to transform into a very large specimen of their spirit animal, or could use the spirit to power up their weapons and create force shields. They don't ride the Legends Beasts, they become the Legends Beasts. They may or may not also have some connection to the group Pentatonix, in my vivid imagination.
