I think a big part of it is that the addition of White Leo as a headmaster and the beast alt-mode gives him so much character; like he's literally three sentient beings in one bot. Four if you toss in a Targetmaster. I like how the LG canon implies that the battle beasts "tamed" the monster bots in a kind of symbiotic relationship. Headmasters are so fuckin' cool.
