Now this is a bit of armchair quarterbacking, but if I was McFarlane, I would have first come out with some figures based on the 1984 David Lynch film, then ease into the new movie figures after a wave or two.
It's a common move nowadays with all the reboots & sequels that toy companies come out with the source material action figures first before the movie adaptation look. It's a way to drum up interest in the IP. Marvel Legends have been doing this for years. And seeing as how the Lynch film had some striking designs for characters, you would think that it would be a no-brainer for McFarlane to have Paul, Jess, and Gurney (Patrick Stewart!) figures.
