It's Disney's new thing, and it's disastrous for the look of the actual dolls. Wanna make a new character look strong and independent? Just put her in pants when it comes time for her to kick ass, and be strong in the movie. They've done it in countless movies over the years like in Tim Burton's Alice, Maleficent, The Nutcracker, Toy Story 4, and now Frozen 2. It's more annoying, and obvious when they do it to already established, characters who already have an iconic, and beloved appearance like Bo Peep, and Elsa.
