Ok I’ll admit I was a big Draculaura hater back when OG monster high was still manufactured.
Even though she’s a classical vampire, very few of her dolls took inspiration from Victorian/Gothic styles. Most of the designs for her were way too safe and repetitive (too many faceups with just light or bright pink lips and eyeshadow), probably because she was the character who sold the most to little girls.
I felt like Draculaura got a disproportionate amount of focus that she didn’t usually deserve just because she was “the pink one”; most of her designs just weren’t that interesting, a wasted slot in many lines that could have gone to another ghoul.
But for some reason, this new monochrome collector doll makes actually me like her. The vest, lipstick, and cheek heart being black elevates the doll a lot, it gives her a Gothic edge that most of her designs didn’t really have. (Her Dawn of the dance and picture day dolls being some of the few exceptions).
Just change her skin, necklace, and boots back to their usual light pink color and this would be the ultimate Draculaura doll for me.
Is it weird that a simple recolor can dramatically change my opinion of an entire character?
