People talking about paint and Mandarin Spawn made me recall a thought I had awhile ago: modern paint on figures seems so soulless and uniform at least compared to, say, the old Mandarin Spawns.
I've been able to look closely at 5 different copies of the original Mandarin Spawn figure, and I can tell you each one was slightly different in its paint, with little mistakes here and there or a little more or less bleed over in certain areas. Each one was lovingly hand painted by an overworked Chinese man. Hours of his life must be encased in those figures. A lot of the modern figures largely just feel like they take a decal with paint on it and press it on.
