I like stands, there are some poses and ideas that cant be pulled off with good balance alone, but most stands are crap, even the expensive or branded ones. And theres no real standardisation among pegs, peg holes and ped depth, hence those dopey little claw things. It's at its worst when theres peg holes in the back for gear, but the makers make the hole an odd size because they don't want you to kitbash.
They serve a purpose, but I would personally have a balanced pose rather than one that relies on a stand. A simple walking pose suits me fine.
That being said, I've heard wire posing is fun for photography so I bought some 12 gauge wire to experiment.
