I think the problem with modern fantasy castings is that they don't have enough showing a true fantasy. Back in the 2000's and 2010's many of the fantasy castings were based on a "What If" of concepts for cars of the past.

Why don't I see more of these in the modern day? Do people not want futuristic renditions of the past anymore? The only two I can think of recently is Group C Fantasy and Rally Speciale from Sonny Fisher.
