Yes, the Tamotu kits are excellent starter kits, especially if you plan to weather them. The inner frame is super sturdy with thick joints, so it’ll feel very much like a toy rather than a model kit. The frame also snaps together snugly, and feel great when you’ve got it all together. The only part that you might want to do any sanding and gluing is the dome on the head, since it’s two pieces. All of the promotional shots show it as one piece, sadly.
