from a design standpoint, I prefer the character design variety of the reboot. He-Man had beast men and skeleton ghosts while all the princesess looked like the same person with different outfits and I definitely prefer Catgirl Catra to Barbie Catra. then again aesthetic preference is completely subjective so that's not an argument against the 80's POP designs, which I also like.
