I had all that Ratchet goodness, but little earlier I'd also gotten a hold of one of the Diaclone combiners that came with a handful of the little pilot figures.
When the G1 transformers came out, it was a joy to discover that these little pilot guys coincidentally fitted perfectly into the weird cockpits that were present in most of the range.
Ratchet had a little buddy to sit behind his windshield and go on adventures with him!
Years later, I discovered the truth about this strange coincidence but as a kid it felt like I was in some secret club of people who knew that transformer figures were intended to have pilots.
