In an effort to create a lower cost extreme long range atmospheric interceptor, Augusta Labs turned to the prototype RX-099 Gamma Gundam. It's bulky frame was modified with Jupiter technology to assume a slightly more aerodynamic shape for extended atmospheric flight. Experimental Nuclear Turbine engines were mounted on arm hardpoints. Cooled by massive refrigerant units in the shoulders, these giant but lightweight fusion engines required no extra fuel as they burned the very air itself and gave the Gamma Plus it's extreme range. The engines could be ejected for better hand to hand mobility, but it would be a long walk home. Although the Gamma Plus NT as seen here was ultimately not adopted by the Federation, further development led to a successful design with the shortened nickname of Gaplant.
