This new one is an improvement, but still not as good as the simple but elegant original design.
In fact, the same can be said about most of this franchise- After the original illustrations and the supercell song, every other instance has been a let down other than maybe the manga and psp videogame as I don't know much about either of them.
The OVA had great designs and was a really good start, but it was just that, a start with no real continuation. The anime had pretty crappy teen drama and worse designs for the human girls, and I can't say that increasing the characteristic single bright color of the alter egos was a great idea (and in Dead Master's case, they totally fucked her up as I previously said). The point of Huke's designs was to make monochomatic characters with only the eyes being a bright color, and they completely failed to understand the appeal of that after the OVA. But they needed variations to sell the merchandising, I guess.
Let's see if this new anime is any good and it actually sells me on the new designs, wouldn't mind getting some figmas of them in that case.
