Masking for splinter camo. "Only kinda" fiddly. At least it's the modern large-field three tone variant and not the old smaller fields four tone one.
>>9721159Use masking tape to mask off the parts themselves. Then unless your tube of Tamiya Putty has gone old and half-dry on you I don't think you need to thin it at all. Push it in with a toothpick, wipe off the worst excess (leave some extra for shrinkage), and do most of your sanding with the masking in place. Then scribe a line straight across afterwards.
A slightly lazier method that might still be good enough is to mask things off again, and then fill it up with Mr Surfacer (ideally one of the coarser grit ones). When it has dried get a Q-tip with some kind of alcohol and start swabbing away until you have a suitable amount left and a noticeable but hopefully not too prominent diving line between the sections.
