There’s too many people to reply to this with, but here’s what I thought, or think, kind of.
“Matoran” is their true name/designation, while “Tohunga” is what the Turaga renamed the Matoran while they were living on Mata Nui (sort of like how they “stretched the truth” about their origins). But once the Matoran of the Island of Mata Nui were rebuilt to be similar to their former forms, the Turaga were like “okay, let’s slowly reintroduce elements of their true past, so we can eventually tell them the whole truth, and they won’t get mad at us for kind of lying to them for over 1,000 years. So, let’s start calling them ‘Matoran’ again, and make up something about that name meaning something about unification, or something like that.”
But then the Mask of Light was found again, and Makuta Teridax sent out the Rahkshi. And the Turaga were like “Hmm, this isn’t gonna be as smooth of a transition as we thought...”
Also, saying “Tohunga Universe” sounds a bit odd compared to “Matoran Universe”.
