Some of them have unique functions dedicated to them (like the Evangelion one having a cocoon phase or the R2-D2 one having unlockable games based on R2's forms), but the core gameplay is shared between all of them: feed, play, clear our whatever bad thing appears on the screen, turn off the lights when it sleeps.
If you're a beginner with virtual pets or if you're too busy to run a more in-depth, challenging Tamagotchi (like me, I spend most of my time working), they're a pretty good option, a neat little pet distraction. Otherwise, if you want something with more teeth, these won't be for you.
