I use a simpler formula: 1 part paint to 3 parts thinner. I thin the paint 1:3 and I thin the clear 1:3 and then I add as much thinned clear to the thinned paint as I feel like. If you add dark gray or black shadows to white or light gray base you can go as high as 1 paint to 5 clear for really subtle shading.
