>>7231911Pairing a hinge and a ball joint is better becasue you get better range from them. A ball-joint is going to be far more limited because of the sculpt. Whereas a hinge incorporates the sculpt and places the motion on the sides, so it doesn't get impeded.
So you get a far greater range of motion going up and down using that combo instead of using two ball-joints, especially with American toys where the sculpt is kept more intact for the sake of accuracy.
Two ball joints also look uglier, because to get the most out of the motion, you need to sculpt one half smaller than the other where they meet. So the upper torso joint looks more natural, because the upper torso is usually going to look wider than the bottom, especially on guys.
When youstick the ball joint on the bottom half, you get feminine looking male figures. On girl figures, i guess that's okay.
