There are many, many cases of older figures being better than newer ones, especially in paint, where you could get something that would cost 100 bucks today for 10 bucks in 2002. It all depends on the people involved in the line and their skill as well as industry norms at the time.

You're forgetting one area: material costs (including paint). And as someone who never owned the original Raven Spawn back in the day, its clear which is better.

As the person who made this image, has the old one, but who cracked and bought the new one, the new one isn't shitty. It has its own appeal. It will never look as good as the original but its far less fragile and can look cool in some poses, especially with the whip sickle. The original despite having decent poa for the time still isn't as good at posing due to the articulation being more swivel-based. It wins hands down in a beauty contest though.

I'd go Redeemer from this line, and just get a 12 points of articulation 'statue' Raven instead of modern Raven. The statue redeemers don't have enough articulation and their poses are silly looking, but modern Raven is rather outclassed by the older figure. Although do note the older Raven won't usually look quite this good in real life as the bronze/copper paint has typically faded over time

This is perfectly understandable. Humans don't like change, especially change that costs them money. I don't like that paint went to shit in the 2010s for example (pic). People can explain why it happened, but that doesn't make it any better; in the end I am still getting a lower quality product and basically all I can do is just refuse to buy. And no one wants to fix things to make things better, only explain why things are bad.

Why is it a negative on Michael that he feels this way?

I know the 2002 only has 11 POA. I find it hard to believe adding 8-11 more POA added 10 dollars more per figure and caused a significant amount of quality loss on the sculpt.
