>>10111547>Do you mind explaining why there's two tones of IJN grey on your model?this is an A6M2a (Type 11) which was exclusively used in China in 1940-41, before it was even officially adopted by the IJN. the brownish gray is the original factory paint; the lighter green-gray is sunbleached.
the early Zeroes in China had this two-tone "camo" which was created by the tarps they used on their airfields; they didn't have hangars on their makeshift dirt-runway airstrips in China. the tarps prevented the paint at the front of the fuselage and wing roots from being bleached out, but the wingtips and rear of the fuselage weren't as lucky.
Zero colors are notoriously poorly-documented and there are many claims as to what the actual pigments were, so I approximated mine using what few sources/photos exist.
