Some Japanese Diaclone fans have been complaining about Chinese and Hong Kongers hoarding certain Diaclone stuff leading to the awkward situation of Japanese buyers getting their preorders cancelled. Imagine being a Japanese dude and being told that your preorder of something sold by a Japanese company meant to be sold exclusively in Japan is cancelled because reasons, and when you go online to do your research you find out that it's because China and HK fans almost always get their grubby mitts on Diaclone goods first for the simple reason that the products are all made in China. There's also been some grumbling in the Japanese netspace about DA-80 having several QC issues - the most ubiquitous of which being the rotating shoulder pieces and ankles being too loose. I sure hope the Robot Base Project won't suffer this same kind of drama.
Also I hope they took inspiration from this guy's fan art for the design.
