As someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s, I have a theory that the people bothered by diapers on figures like myself are people who got so used to the style of thigh articulation MLs use which is similar to a lot of older figures that it looks totally natural and normal for figures. Thus these people can tolerate without issue the thigh gaps that diapers are meant to "solve", but see the diaper as unsightly because they are not used to it.
