It has never been a better time because the bar is lower, pic related. Legit doll is really all that’s required to the hobby these days and they are easier than ever to get with cheaper dolls, some company layaways and PayPal payment plan.
I wish it inspired people to learn to paint or to send the dolls out for a faceup and avoid the cheap doll, sock dress, $10 faceup/free eyes/cheap shiny wig stereotype. I think a lot of people even get more expensive dolls and plan to style them on their own but don’t realize the time and work that goes into styling and then photographing a doll well.
Posing and body aesthetics are a different story but unless you are going to show the body a lot, sueding and wiring can go far to make the dolls look so much better. My friend had a RS who would not pose well, could not stand either and he never did even restring her or try to suede and wire her, she just stayed floppy and sitting in wonky poses forever.
