Bandai tends to use tons of stands when things are on display to make sure things stay in place, so that's likely not representative of how the final product will need to be supported (I mean, they definitely won't have you place Act 4 Stages on top of the MB Strike's stand). There's undoubtedly gonna be some kind of support in consideration of the Striker backpack's long term stability, but I think the pods will be able to support themselves if you choose to, especially since MB joints tend to be quite stiff.
For example, the boosters on the RD Full Armor Unicorn can support themselves if you want, but when displaying it long-term it's best to support 'em with a stand. Otherwise, over time you're going to be placing a lot of stress on the connection point that may cause it to gradually weaken. I imagine it's gonna be similar situation for the Gunbarrel Striker.
