He's got lizards and snakes and spider webs all over him, like is the implication that bugs and reptiles enjoy crawling on rocks?
the torn boot only emphasizes that as a rock guy he probably shouldn't need protective gear like boots. and his forearms are just colored at the elbow joint (which in fairness was a luxurious joint to have back then)
also Hothead is apparently supposed to be like 30 feet tall
