I'm not a huge fan of soft goods, so I wouldn't want full soft goods shinigami outfits, but I welcome the captain robes (and jackets, robes, capes, etc.) being soft goods because layering on plastic on plastic is always gonna get a bit messy. Imagine Shunsui with a soft plastic captain haori and then his own pink haori with soft plastic on top of that. Nightmare.
