There's not much more room for improvement that's only going to fill a niche. (Like BBW dolls.) And if you want to make money, then you've got to make a doll that has a broad appeal.
So you need a doll that's got some sort of theme or difference that's outside the norm of stand fashion doll bodies & themes. It's why Bratz & Monster High got popular. They offered a different, novel theme that standard fashion doll lines couldn't pull off in the long term. Of course, creating an idea that's different from everything out there is easier said than done, but if you do, then you're solid.
