>>6971973Thank you very much!
>>6971979It depends on the project but I lean towards using birch plywood or basswood in general. Use a thickness that won't wreck your hand cutting with just an xacto knife. (I lean towards 1/8'' or 3/32''). I also use jumbo popsicle sticks and bags of multi-sized square/round dowels, foam board - all are craft store gettable.
I took a look at the Glowforge btw and damn that looks so awesome and it would be amazing for like etching intricate patterns - that price tag hurts though.
>>6972076>>6972402I say go for it if you are interested. It's really a calming hobby once you get into it. Just start a small project and go from there. I recommend from The Square to Spare on youtube as she tends to give measurements and nice guidance, but there are all sorts of tutorials and youtube vids from talented individuals to learn from (HMS2 can make some insane stuff out of pla plate - I wanna be on that guy's level someday). It does take patience but it's fun. I just finished a kotatsu that took a few weeks of trial and error using dowels, popsicle sticks and wire until I was satisfied with it.
