I had a blast last spring playing Uncharted Waters 2 for SNES, great KOEI dim of the age of sail with intricate trading mechanics, alternate characters/paths and an interconnected campaign you can see from six different perspectives. Just sailing around finding new discoveries alone is fun, or you can run guns to Africa and pocket a tidy profit.
