He really did need an open-mouthed/smiling expression, and I feel like they could have engineered it with the magnetic faceplate system if they'd wanted to.
Admittedly, the preorder bonus from ThreeZero's store was his severed head in the jar, which was cool as hell. This head can be plugged onto his body as well, with the skullcap on, or you can use the bloody neck stump to make his body look headless. That's a lot of alternate play/display options, much more than you usually get from an exclusive bonus.
