It learned emotions from Peter, and once it was angry that it got rejected, it only got further corrupted when it sensed Brock's hate and bonded with him. But while it was with Peter, it did nothing but benefit him. It was the victim in the situation, being rejected from someone it just wanted to help and have a true symbiosis with.
And it was just trying to copy what Peter did by beating up criminals, just like when it tried to kiss Jean because it figures that's what Peter would do.
What I'm trying to say is that the symbiote is a good alien who did nothing wrong.
