A lot of the mainline UC shows use the same humanoid designs and other design elements for most of their MS, but the AoZ stuff in particular gets really unconventional.
I don't think Fujioka ever thought his designs would become toys so he just did whatever the hell he wanted.
As a result the AoZ designs play a lot with shapes and forms.
It's like Avant-Garde Gundam towards the end.
There are also tons of obscure Gundam side stories and reimaginings that have been released over the years with other approaches to design.
Junji Okubo's take on Gundam called "For The Barrel" is another one. He's probably more welll known for his work on Steel Batallion though.
